Not feeling the spark lately? Here’s how to tap into your creative genius … and have a little fun while doing it.

When you have something that’s coming to you over and over again, you’ve tapped into the magic of creative inspiration.

An idea that won’t leave you alone.

A feeling that you need to transform into art.

A story the world needs to hear from you.

These are the kinds of creative inspiration that make the world a better place for all of us.

More importantly, these are the kind of creative experiences that teach us how to trust our own ideas.

If you’ve been sitting on a creative project for way too long, then let this be your calling. It’s time to share your ideas with the world, and tap into your own creative genius.

How To Tap Into Your Creative Genius

Meet Your Inner Critic

The first step to inviting creative energy is to clear room for it, by addressing the dreaded voice of your inner critic.

If you’ve ever worked on a creative project before, then you know what I’m talking about. It’s that voice that brings up all your worst fears the minute you start to dream.

It might say: I don’t know enough yet. What if I’m rejected or ridiculed? No cares what I have to say. Someone has already done this better. I’ll never be good enough.

Your inner critic will bring up all those horrible thoughts to keep you from even trying. And the problem is, it can be quite convincing.

That’s why you have to constantly remind yourself that not all thoughts are true, especially the ones that come straight from your inner critic.

Once you can accept that inner voice for what it is – your brain’s mechanism to protect itself – then you can begin to decipher what’s true and what’s just fear

The more you get to know that inner critic, and thank it for doing its job, the more you can move forward without letting it have power over you.

Turn Up Your Creative Voice

Your creative voice is the one that brings you ideas. It’s the one that makes you feel inspired or passionate or fulfilled when you create something. Maybe you make music, write in a journal, draw, express yourself on social media, get craft with DIY projects, or cook up an elaborate meal. Sometimes I even feel creative on the tennis court, as I’m focused on my body and the game.

Whenever you tap into that place of flow, where the ideas just come, that’s when you’re listening to your creative voice.

Once you find that passion, all you have to do is follow it. You see, creativity is something that grows the more you use it. So start with one small idea before you jump in and create a masterpiece. Focus on one brushstroke before you attempt an entire painting.

Practice creating just for fun, and each step will naturally lead into the next. You’ll start to follow your creative instincts without realizing it.

Just like that, your creative voice will get louder and more confident with every step. After all, you’re not being given these ideas for nothing. They’re meant for you

Attract Ideas With Action

Tap Into Your Creative Genius, how to Tap Into Your Creative Genius, creative genius, creativity, creative inspiration, am i creative, become more creative, creative potential, find my creative side, melissa hullThe thing about ideas is they come to all of us, but they take root in those who take action

If we don’t take action toward our ideas, then they leave and move on to someone else. In fact, if you sit on an idea for too long, you’ll find yourself saying, I should have been the one to create that.

Yes, you should have – if you’d taken action on it when your creative voice presented it to you the first time.

Because ideas love action.

One idea leads to another leads to another. They build on each other. They attract collaborations and support from others. They can catch fire and build momentum that carries you forward when you’re tired or stuck.

But this all requires action. You have to actually engage in the creative process, even when it doesn’t come to you easily at first.

It’s easy to get side-tracked or become defeated when you can’t find the flow. But the true power of a creative mind is unlocked when you take creative action anyway

Surrender To The Magic

Finally, I encourage you to surrender to the magic of the creative process.

Get frustrated by it. Lose hours in it. Learn more about yourself through it. Just don’t close yourself off to its magic.

In those moments where you hit a roadblock, where you feel discouraged, or fear creeps in – try to remember why you engaged in it in the first place. Feel the allure of a new idea, the enchantment of seeing it come to life. Trust the process enough to let yourself have fun with it.

Creativity is an energy and a calling within us. To me, that energy feels like joy in motion. You never know quite where it will take you. But one thing’s for sure. It will always lead you to your greatest potential.

All you have to do is open yourself up to the process.
